Eighth Jini Community Meeting

London, 7 December 2004

Today CDO2 Founder, Gary Kendall, is giving a presentation at the Eighth Jini Community Meeting at the Brewery, London entitled CDOSheet: distributing and sharing complex financial calculations using JINI and WebServices from a spreadsheet. The abstract is reproduced below. To see the presentation in full, click here.

CDOSheet is a spreadsheet-based application for pricing structured credit products such as synthetic collateralised debt obligations (CDO) and single tranche CDO (STCDO). Calculating the risk of a single one of these products typically requires numerical integration across many hundred market data inputs and can take several hours on a single machine.

Using JINI and WebServices we are able to provide users with a traditional spreadsheet interface while performing risk calculations using the spare resources of all existing desktop machines. The sharing of calculations among machines and results among users is transparent. This enables smaller banks and hedge funds to take advantage of the latest pricing models and methodologies without making a substantial investment in hardware and support infrastructure.
